Bakery/Cafe Manager

Full time 40/hours

Starting salary £23,920 with a performance related bonus scheme for the right candidate

We’re about to open our third premises- a new bakery shop with sit in cafe on busy Acorn Road in Jesmond. We’re looking for an amazing manager to come in right from the start and help us build this new space.

Are you looking for your next challenge? This is a really exciting opportunity to have a lot of ownership over a brand new venture. We’ve nurtured Pink Lane as a bakery and a growing brand for a decade and as we expand we’re looking for people we can trust with day to day leadership in crucial positions in our business. This is one of those.

You’ll be mature, calm under pressure and an optimistic problem solver. We need you to bring proven experience of heartfelt customer service and staff supervision. We’re specifically looking for someone with experience of cafe management or sit in dining.

We need someone with a focussed eye for detail. Our best people have acute observational skills and then the ability to prioritise the tasks they identify to keep the business moving.

We as business owners are involved and responsive and provide a lot of support to our team leaders. We sort most of the background admin so you as managers can stay hands on, customer focussed and there to smooth out the inevitable glitches of a busy hospitality shift.

In this role you’ll have room to develop and grow. We’re a people focussed workplace and really work with your individual strengths and weaknesses to build just the skills you need to thrive. Our staff turnover is low and we’ve got a host of benefits from 6 weeks holiday, additional leave for maternity, paternity and other big life events, bike to work scheme and proper sick pay.

We value collaboration and imagination, and the people who are most at home with us are those who are able to push forwards with ambition and focus while bringing everyone else along with them.

Sound like the next step for you? We’d love to hear how you’d really shine in this role.

Apply with your CV and detailed cover letter telling us about your career so far, what fires you up and why this job was made for you to

Craft Baker

40 hours/week

We’re looking for a full time craft baker to join our growing team. As we expand this summer we’ve got a rare 40 hour vacancy for an experienced sourdough baker to help us up production to supply our third retail site.

You’ll be a passionate baker, or chef with strong sourdough leanings with a proven ability to mix, shape and bake at a great pace. We’ve built a strong team here at our Gosforth production bakery, with a focus on quality and huge room for development within our wide product range and our growing business.

We’re a collaborative, imaginative workplace and value strong teamwork. People from a cheffing background looking for more of a work/life balance, but with the ability to contribute inspired flavours alongside good graft often find themselves at home with us.

Equally we have some lifelong bakers on the team, and there’s plenty of opportunity to get stuck into the sourdough science in the quest for that consistently great loaf.

We’re fun, fast, and totally focussed and look for that energy for all our roles. This vacancy is for 40 hours a week, 8 hour shifts with no huge overtime, some Saturday working with earliest starts 2am on those busy days and 4am on weekdays.

Pay starts at £11.95/hour, with six weeks holiday, proper sick pay, company maternity and paternity leave way beyond the statutory, bike to work scheme, staff discounts and the chance to be part of a strong business for the long term.

Tell us about your baking career, or let us know how a sidestep into bread with our training would be a great next move for you. We need a minimum of some solid kitchen experience, and work with doughs, especially sourdough is highly desirable.

Email us at to apply with your CV and a detailed cover letter telling us why you’re just the person to join our expanding team. We really need to know a bit about you and your skills to fully consider your application, so don’t skip that cover letter future bakers!
